10th Coronation Anniversary: Edo CP breaks down in tears before Oba of Benin

Awed by the majestic presence of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin and framed with the cultural heritage throne, the Commissioner of police in Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, was overcome with emotion as he struggled to speak when he led senior officers of the Command on a courtesy visit to the palace in Benin City, Edo State, Thursday evening, hours before the commencement of the 10th Coronation Anniversary celebration of the royal father on the throne of his forebears.

Recounting his knowledge through books of the Benin Kingdom and its ancestry, the Commissioner, who mopped his face with an handkerchief, acknowledged the contribution of Oba Ewuare and the primacy of the revered traditional ruler in strengthening the security architecture of with the support of other security agencies.

Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1994 and assuming office as Edo’s 51st Commissioner of Police in August 2026, the Benue State-born CP recounted how he had studied the rich history of the Benin Empire from primary school through his university days studying History and International Relations.

”Permit me your Majesty if I am emotional here today. Before you, my mind flashes back to what I have read in books. Forgive me, Your Majesty. I am overwhelmed.

“I never thought that in my career or lifetime, I will stand before this throne,” CP Daaor said, while soliciting the royal father’s prayers and support in strengthening the state’s security architecture.

Also visiting the palace, the newly deployed Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Corps Commander Prere Ezekiel Bedford, sought the royal father’s backing to help address operational challenges faced by personnel during rescues and emergencies.
