Three suspected gunrunners have been caught with seven assorted firearms by personnel of the Nigeria Police in Obingwa Local Government Area,
Abia State, South East.
Command’s spokesperson in the State, DSP Maureen Chinaka confirmed this on Thursday in a statement, identified the male suspects as Nworu John and Chikezie Ubani who are both 65 years alongside 55-year-old Collins Ukandu.
The notorious “criminal suspects were apprehended in the early hours of today, December 11th 2025, by men of the Command, acting on credible and actionable intelligence”, according to the police.
The police also revealed that two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, one locally fabricated six-round revolver and four live cartridges.
The statement partly reads: “The operatives apprehended three notorious gun runners identified as Nworu John male, 65 years, Chikezie Ubani, male 65 years; and Collins Ukandu male, 55 years.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two automatic pump-action guns, three locally-made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, one locally fabricated six-round revolver and four live cartridges”, the statement said.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and investigation, DSP Chinaka said the feat is in furtherance of the Command’s sustained efforts to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during and after the Yuletide.
According to the statement, “arms have been recovered, suspects have been arraigned for various crimes and successfully prosecuted in court. Covert and overt operational strategies are firmly in place to ensure continued security in the State”.
Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, assured residents of Abia State that the Command’s sustained commitment to combating crime in all its forms.
He urged the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, activities or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency numbers.
