The academic career of a yet-to-be named University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Kwara State student, ended on a suicide note last weekend over the economic hardship that has frustrated him him and his family.
The male student who was on the cumulative aggregate of 4.5 academic standing at the Department of Mass Communication before he died at his private residence at Oke-odo axis of Tanke Community, Ilorin, the State Capital.
Multiple reports said the deceased decided to take poisonous substance last weekend, when his roommate had left for lectures, leaving a note for his roommate blamed the tragedy on his inability to cope with financial strain years after losing his father
His roommate who raised the alarm on the incident when they returned from lectures, said the victim’s mother, was a retired school teacher, took over financial responsibility for his academic after the death of the family breadwinner.
It was learnt that some of his Coursemates in the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences (CIS), raised some funds for him to pay his tuition fees and buy foodstuffs when their last semester last year.
The centre could not hold at the weekend when he took a poisonous substance, according to a senior in University, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday afternoon.
TheNewspad reports that the Management of the University has notified mother of the late student and police about the incident, ahead of a candle night procession by students.
