A female National Youth Corps member who was reportedly assaulted by a teacher Mrs Amuzat Fatima Nike, has yet to make a formal complaint to the Nigeria Police in the State.
Photographs of the the Corps member serving at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin Kwara State, was allegedly beaten by a teacher over alleged disrespect to a teacher when she went to collect her clearance letter from the school on Thursday.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Kwara State, DSP Adeyemi Adetoun disclosed this during an interview with TheNewspad Editor.
Commenting on the incident, DSP Adetoun said such incident ought not to be swept under the carpet by the victim.
“No official complaint has been made by the Corps member anywhere. I am not aware, but I saw it online.
“For police to step in and investigate, she ought to make a the complaint official so that we can take up the case. As it stands now, I do not know who the person is”, according to the police spokesperson.
But, the Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has waded into the incident.
In a statement issued on Friday by the State Ministry of Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, condemned the incident, describing it as unacceptable.
The Commissioner revealed the teacher behind the assault has been summoned ahead of the necessary disciplinary procedures taken against the culprit by the government.
She stated that the State is known for peace and harmony and the State government will not allow anything truncate the existing peace in its academic institutions.
She also appealed to the Management of the National Youth Service Corps and all concerned people to be patient, remain law-abiding and perform their duties without fear.
She also noted that normalcy has been restored in the school.
