Two suspected kidnappers have been gun down in a gun duel with police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, during an incident that involved the abduction of three individuals around Ajebo, under the jurisdiction of the Owode-Egba Police Division in Ogun State.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, CSP Omolola Odutola, said
in a statement that a significant breakthrough was recorded in a kidnapping case reported to police on 16th July, 2025 when three hostages were rescued unharmed at about 2100hrs by the police deployed intelligence surveillance in the locality.
One AK-47 rifle (Breech No. 5005584) loaded with 139 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition;One magazine;One cutlass; Chain and padlock (believed to have been used to restrain the victims) in addition to the sum of ₦1,200,035 (suspected to be proceeds of crime) and Mobile phones were recovered as exhibits from the hoodlums.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo as saying that efforts are ongoing to apprehend others kidnappers who escaped deeper into the forest with gunshot injuries.
He commended the swift and tactical response of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and assured that operatives are on the trail of the remaining suspects.
The statement in parts read, “During the operation, the kidnappers engaged the police team in a gun duel. In the ensuing exchange of fire, two of the kidnappers were fatally wounded, while others escaped deeper into the forest with gunshot injuries.

The Command remains resolute in its zero-tolerance approach to kidnapping and other violent crimes in the State, Commissioner Ogunlowo said.
