Obasanjo, Buhari didn’t kill opposition, El-Rufai slams Tinubu

Date:

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to kill opposition party in Nigeria despite claims by the later that he is a democrat.

He alleged that unlike Tinubu who wants to perpetuate himself into a life President, both former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari democratic governments didn’t kill opposition party or jail their leaders despite their backgrounds in the Nigerian Army.

El-Rufai made the allegation when he met former Vice president Atiku Abubakar at the weekend in Kaduna State where he alleged that the signs are there that President Tinubu wants to turn himself into Paul Biya who has held on to power since assuming office in 1982.

El-Rufai told his guest, Atiku that “you are our leader. Your have fought. You fought the military. You have experience in democratic governance. And when you and Obasanjo were in charge of this Country (Nigeria), no one has been imprisoned because he has different political issues. Never, not once.

“Even former President Muhammadu Buhari with his military background never did that. Now, we are facing Civilian (Tinubu), but they are worse than any military regime that we have had.

“Your call that we must unite, is a timely one. I think the people of Nigeria have made up their mind that this government must go, and that the All Progressives Congress, APC must be voted out”, according to El-Rufai.

Earlier in his remarks, the former Vice President, Abubakar Atiku, described the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai as a fearless and courageous man.

He stated that consoled El-Rufai on his recent attack by political thugs at the recent inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, which left some persons injured.

Atiku called for the taming of President Tinubu-led administration which he claimed poses the greatest risk to our democracy since the return of democratic governance.

He said, “I know you are not the kind of person who is scared. You are someone who will not confront this situation. That is more of the reasons why we must come together to confront this situation headlong and make sure that one: it doesn’t (attack) doesn’t happen anymore”, Atiku said.

But the Presidency has replied former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who claimed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to perpetuate himself into a life President.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy in a reaction said, “President Tinubu is a democrat who does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when re-elected in 2027″.

The Presidential Aid who inferred that the African Democratic Congres (ADC) leader might need help, said the former Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister has recognised the futility of attempts by his associates in his new party to prevent President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, adding that “This plot is proving to be unattainable, a mission doomed to fail”.
