Nigerien caught with stolen 18 rams worth ₦7m in Bauchi

Operatives of the State Police Command in Bauchi State have arrested a suspect who reportedly stole 18 rams estimated at ₦7 million.

 

But four other accomplices, all of the same address, who are currently at large, the Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib said.

 

Habib stated that Sayyadi Abubakar, currently in police custody, was arrested in connection with the crime by the police following a swift intelligence-led operation in Bauchi Metropolis.

 

He disclosed that the 18 stolen rams were also recovered from the 58-year-old man of Tahoua Town, Maradi State, Niger Republic,

by police operatives at the scene after the incident that occurred at about 0200 hours on May 19, 2026.

 

The statement said Police Monitoring Team attached to the Area Command, Bauchi Metropolis, intercepted a white Hummer bus with registration number DELTA WW-882 ZR and a dark ash Toyota Camry car with registration number plate, Bauchi NNG-293-AA on Gubi Road, Bauchi, acting on credible intelligence.

 

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with one Alaji Ibrahim and four other accomplices, all of the same address, who are currently at large.

 

“The group allegedly stole the rams from a location opposite A.A. Kunya Filling Station along Murtala Mohammed Way, Bauchi.

 

“The syndicate is known to replace vehicle plate numbers with those of any state they visit to facilitate their criminal activities”, according to the police spokesman.

 

He also revealed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects. Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion.

 

In the mean time, the Police Command, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and urges members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations.
