A pressure group, Niger Delta People’s Confederation (NDPC) has hailed the appointment of Mr Charles Airhiavbere and Mr Pius Odubu as the Director of Finance and Edo State Representative respectively on the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Wednesday, President Buhari forwarded the names of the proposed NDDC Board including the substantive Chairman, Lauretta Onochie, Mr Airhiavbere, a Chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Deputy governor of Edo State to the Senate for confirmation.

The Coordinator-General of Niger Delta People’s Confederation, Mr Iyamu Osaro Culture in a statement, charged the new Management team of NDDC not to see their appointments to serve as a cash cow, but a call to duty and reposition the agency towards the development of Niger Delta region.

Iyamu Osaro who lamented how some enemies fought vehemently to truncate the genuine course for a better Edo State, recalled that “when my humble self and team stood firmly against all odds to defend the interest of Benin Kingdom over the nominations and confirmation of Benin men to take charge of the affairs of NDDC” since 2019.

“Some enemies within our folds fought behind the scene to truncate our genuine course for a better Benin Kingdom. However, we never bowed to their antics and selfish interests. Yet, we keep pushing, while using our various workable tools to engage the Presidency and other relevant Stakeholders in view to actualizing our goal and struggle for a prosperous Benin Kingdom.

“The nominations of Dr. Pius Odubu and Major General Charles Airhiavbere (Rted) as Edo State Representative and Executive Director of Finance did not come to us as a shock.

“But, we are very delighted that for the first time in the history of NDDC, Edo man was nominated as Executive member (Director of Finance) as Management team, which is a departure from the past.

“With this development, we are set to join our two illustrious sons to development Edo State and empower more Nigerians”, Iyamu said should be of extreme concern to every decent and discerning mind.
