Mechanic stabs spare parts dealer to death in Edo

Date:

An auto mobile spare parts dealer identified only as Munachi was stabbed to death by a his neighbour in connection with cult-related violence that engulfed some parts of Edo State months ago.

The victim, was hacked to death with a knife reportedly hijacked from a nearby wheelbarrow belonging to a meat hawker by hoodlums in front of the victim’s shop last week Friday on Igun street in Benin City.

Violence erupted after a group of boys led by Munachi’s neighbour who is also a local mechanic, cruising on a 10-seater bus, parked at the entrance of Munachi’s shop in the crowded area, which is a shelter for local artisans.

Investigation revealed that the alleged right violation was however met with resistance by the shop owner who while appealing to the driver of the operational vehicle to park well for his customers to his shop died in the attack.

Investigation also revealed that the yet-to-be named automobile mechanic who heard the heated confrontation at a nearly gambling shop, allegedly pulled a knife and ripped off Munachi lower abdomen twice and his neck, caused the injury that led to the spare parts dealer’s death.

But brave business owners chased the hoodlums and caught the mechanic who is seen as a mentally unstable man in attempt to make way for his gang members to escape through other arterial roads in response to the attack.

Consequently, Nigeria police operatives attached to Esigie Division stormed the scene and arrested the murder suspect after others fled and evacuated the deceased at the crime scene.

Recall that Munachi’s brother was earlier caught in crossfire during a recent cult fight in some parts of Edo State, according to investigation.
