Kano govt allocates N2.5b for free mass wedding

The Kano State government has allocated the sum of N2.5b 2025 appropriation for a mass wedding programme, including procurement of mattresses, beddings and other household items for brides.

The State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Musa Sulaiman Shanono disclosed this while presenting the budget to the Kano State House of Assembly for consideration.

The gesture is aimed at reducing the problems associated with the high number of unmarried youths across the 44 Local Government Areas of the State.

According to The Guardian Newspaper, the budget is met for incapacitated widows and widowers, divorces, suitors, and spinsters seeking marriage under N91.32 billion allocations for the governance and service delivery sector.

The number of beneficiaries of the 2025 mass wedding programme has yet to be released, according to the State government, which previously spent about N845 million on 1,800 Couples under a similar package in 2024.

In addition, the government approved the sum of N 1 billion is equally earmarked for the Ramadan feeding programme.

The government also allocated the sum of N19.5 billion on various programmes, including the provision of CCTV Camera at High Court complexes and Magistrate courts at the sum of N500 million.

Similarly, rehabilitation of office building for Magistrate will gulp the sum of N875 million, while purchase of furniture and fittings at Shar’ia court was pegged at N210 million.
