The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Nigeria Police Force Command situated at the airport to probe the popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, over his recent row with some officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the move was in response to a petition received by police from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, NCAA over Kwam 1’s indecent behaviour that allegedly caused obstruction of safe operations of Valuejet aircraft at the airport.
Ayinde, according to the statement, “is accused of engaging in unruly conduct that allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft, in violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023 following a reported incident on 5 August 2025 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja”.
The police said, “In response, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly”.
The statement also said, “The Force hereby assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders in the sector of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws”.
TheNewspad recalls witnesses accounts and a footage that went viral on social media, Kwam 1 allegedly attempted to physically block a Lagos-bound ValueJet aircraft from taxiing after a disagreement with the crew over a flask he insisted on carrying onboard.
The airline’s pilot, Capt. Ranti Oluranti, objected, citing aviation regulations prohibiting boarding with a container of suspicious content.
The row was said to have escalated when Kwam 1 refused to comply, reportedly spilling the flask’s contents on the pilot during the exchange.
The pilot later began taxiing the plane while Kwam 1 and ground personnel were still in front of it — an action that has also drawn criticism.
The delay by concerned authorities to investigation and arresting the top Nigerian musician’s behaviour has kept netizens and other stakeholders who have expressed divergent opinions over selective justice system, talking.
