Gunmen suspected to be political thugs launched assault on
Edo State governorship rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday.
The incident happened at Ugbekpe Ekperi in Etsako Central local government area for the Ward-to-Ward tour of the main opposition party, ahead of the September 21 governorship poll.
The APC governorship Candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo and
leaders of the party, including Edo State former Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh among others, defied the threats that flared tempers and went ahead with the rally.
According to Africa Independence Television (AIT), said shortly after they took turns to address supporters, another set of gunshots began, which caused panic at the campaign venue with the party leaders hurriedly delivering their speeches and to leave the venue.
Nigeria Police Authorities have yet-to comment on the incident that sent jitters down the spines of rural dwellers in the locality.
TheNewspad reports that Candidates of the various political parties in the election are expected to sign a Peace Accord in the presence of heads of security agencies in the State and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
