The Enugu State government has placed a N10 million bounty on the killers of Reverend father Mathew Eya who was the Parish Priest of St. Charles Catholic Church, Eha-Ndiagu, in Nsukka Local Government Area.
Are reported, Father Eya was brutally murdered on Friday, September 19, 2025, when gunmen ambushed and shot him along the Alumona–Eha Ndiagu road in Nsukka Local Government Area.
Malachy Agbo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication disclosed this on Saturday in a statement which condemned the killing, describing it as cowardly, wicked, and cold-blooded.
The State government extended its condolences to the immediate family of the deceased and the entire Catholic faithful over the tragic incident.
The government also reiterated its commitment to the safety of lives and property, the government vowed to ensure the killers are brought to justice.
It further charged residents of the State to rise to the challenge, and promise to deploy every available resource, including technology and credible intelligence to track down the perpetrators and eliminate criminal elements threatening peace of Enugu State.
Earlier in a statement, the Catholic Church authorities said in a statement by its Chancellor of the Diocese, Fr. Cajetan Iyidobi enjoined faithful to “remain ardent in prayer that God sees us through this period of devastating anguish. May his soul rest in peace. Amen”.
It also said the church is “Shocked to the marrow, it is with crushing pain and sorrow, yet a total submission to the will of the Almighty God and a firm hope in the resurrection of the dead, that I inform you of the tragic death of yet another brother of ours, Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.
