A motorcyclist, Adekunle Odukaye caught abusing his three-year-old son in a viral video has been arrested by the Nigeria police, which also sent him to a therapeutic centre for mental check.
The inhumane treatment and brutal assault of the victim, Boluwatife Odukaye by his father, who resides at Oke Baale, Ado Odo Ota, was reported to the police on February 28, 2025, drew condemnation.
The incident was published by a Facebook user, Adelere Rasaki, shared a video on Thursday showing him repeatedly kicking the young boy captured in a distressing footage that quickly gained traction.
CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police in Ogun State Command, who confirmed Odukaye’s arrest in a statement, said the suspect has been “subjected to a clinical evaluation, and professional assessments have recommended therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation”.
She said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, immediately ordered an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shocking incident in response to the public outrage and widespread concern by Nigerians.
CSP Odutola revealed that the Command, in collaboration with medical professionals, ensured that Boluwatife Odukaye underwent a comprehensive medical examination, including
a head scan and bone X-rays at a reputable hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, to assess any internal injuries sustained from the abuse.
The statement assured that the Ogun State Police Command remains committed to justice and child protection, and upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on child abuse, domestic violence, and all forms of cruelty to minors.
It further assured the public that it will continue to work tirelessly to protect the vulnerable and uphold justice in our society.
