The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo has cautioned motorists against excessive speed that often leading to fatal road crashes in Nigeria.
His admonition followed a tragic motor accident that claimed the lives of four persons Monday, 11th August, at about 1:40 p.m., near the Owolowo area of Ipara Remo in the State.
Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, CSP Omolola Odutola disclosed this in a statement on Thursday August 13th 2025.
“Preliminary information received by the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) indicates that the lone accident involved an unregistered Lexus car driven by an unidentified male, with two other male occupants on board.
“The vehicle was reportedly travelling at high speed outbound towards Fidiwo when the driver lost control and veered off the road, ramming into two pedestrians — Mr. Akeem Ashiru and Mr. Shina Badejo — who were standing by the roadside.
The impact was fatal, resulting in the instant death of the driver, Mr. Akeem Ashiru, and Mr. Shina Badejo.
The two other occupants were rushed to Isara State Hospital, where one later died while receiving treatment.
“The other victim was referred to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, for further medical attention, she said.
The vehicle sustained significant damage, according to the police spokesperson who said a team of Traffic Policemen visited the scene, at documented the incident.
The Ogun State Police Command also extends its condolences to the families of the deceased and urges motorists to exercise caution, avoid excessive speeding, and obey all traffic regulations to prevent needless loss of lives.
