Fake recruiter held after duping police job-seekers

A fake male job recruiter, Dauda Samuel, posing as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba has been arrested by police operatives after duping prospective job-seekers in Nigeria.

28-year-old man was nabbed by operatives of the (National Cybercrime Centre-NPF-NCCC) over his alleged involvement in Nigeria Police Force recruitment scam, computer-related fraud, and identity theft.

Police Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi saidin a statement that Dauda, was apprehended in Panda Village, Nasarawa State, following credible intelligence and multiple complaints from members of the public.

ACP Adejobi also revealed that his arrest stems from reports that an individual had been impersonating the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba, on Facebook.

The statement said the suspect has since voluntarily confessed to the crime in addition to other valuable information that is aiding ongoing investigations.

Police preliminary investigations said, “the suspect created and operated fake Facebook accounts bearing the name and image of the DIG in charge of Training and Development DIG Frank Mba without authorization”.

“The suspect allegedly exploited this false identity to promote a fictitious Police recruitment exercise, fraudulently extorting money from unsuspecting Nigerians under the pretence of offering employment into the Nigeria Police Force”.

The police spokesman who cautioned Nigerians to be wary of impostors, assured that “efforts are currently underway to identify possible accomplices and trace additional digital footprints linked to the suspect’s activities through digital forensic analysis”.
