Excessive heat causes bomb explosion in Army Barracks — Spokesman

The Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI Maiduguri of the Nigerian Army has attributed the bomb explosion that occurred at the Ordinance Unit in one of its ammunition storage facilities located in Giwa Barracks to excessive heat.

Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI confirmed this in a statement.

The Army said situation has however, been brought under control with the combined efforts of the Borno State Fire Service Department and other fire trucks from security agencies”.

It said, “The explosion was due to the current high temperatures in Maiduguri, which led to the explosion of some munitions.

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been deployed to protect the public and prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation accordingly.

The statement urged the general public to please
discountenance any speculation of an attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and remain calm.
