Edo police crackdown on 13 murder suspects

The Nigeria police Command in Edo State, has arrested 13 suspects in connection with murder cases within the past six weeks across the State.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Monday Agbonika, said this at a Media briefing on Friday at the police headquarters in Benin City, the State Capital.

The data, which was gleaned from the various police formations across the State between January and February 13th 2026, is in addition to the arrest of 14 suspected armed robbers in police custody in the State.

The Commissioner revealed that 87 suspected kidnappers have been arrested in addition to 15 suspected cultists have been apprehended by the police within the same period under his watch.

Further breakdown indicated that 30 kidnapped hostages were released with, many unhurt, by security agents, while six stolen vehicles, 3 stolen motorcycles, and 39 stolen phones were also recovered by the police.

“We have also dealt a major blow to the instruments of violence”, according to CP Agbonika.

He stated that confirmed recovery of cache of arms and ammunition in different raids, including two fabricated AK-47 rifles and six rounds of live ammunition by the Nigeria police.

He also disclosed that the feat was achieved through the aide of helicopters and drone technology, gallant and dedicated police operatives who have conducted several high-risk joint operations, moving from forest to forest, into the heart of thick bushes where kidnappers dens.
