A truck driver has been hacked to death over alleged refusal to pay the sum of N1000 ticket slammed on him by louts who posed as revenue enforcement agents in Edo State.
A distraught said the yet-to-be named victim, stated that the tragedy occured last weekend in Ahor Community bypass, Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the State.
Trouble started after the victim offered N600 cash to the revenue enforcers who temporarily halted the truck movement and impeded traffic on the Highway.
A witness said revenue enforcers insisted that the driver must pay sum of N1000 ticket branded ‘Ahor Community Development Association’.
He also alleged that revenue enforcers who impounded his vehicle loaded with goods and thereafter hacked the driver to death with a wheel spanner from his vehicle after a scuffle.
TheNewspad reports that after the tragedy, the revenue enforcers, fled the scene and abandoned the victim’s body in the pool of his own blood.
Leader of Hausa Community in Edo State, Alhaji Bademosi Saleh who confirmed the incident, pledge justice for the slain driver within the purview of the law.
He said the incident occurred about 12a.m, noting that their legal Adviser of the Association and police authorities in the State have been duly briefed about the crime.
He wondered why revenue enforcers had to mount road block on a Highway and harass and extort commuters under the guise of collecting revenue midnight.
Saleh said the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Betty Isokpan Otimenyin has been formally briefed about the tragedy and has ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged crime.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in the State, CSP Moses Yamu, declined comments.
