Three fake lawyers in Delta State have been arrested at different times and handed to the law enforcement agency in less than two weeks.
The latest move by the Nigeria Bar Association, Delta State, paid off, Monday when a members from Warri, Effurun and Udu Branches arrested a fake lawyer, Tega Ikupa.
The fake lawyer was nabbed while preparing a Deed of Conveyance with the seal of a Sapele-based lawyer, Israel Onoge Esq at Effurun, raising fresh concerns amongst stakeholders in the Bar.
The development comes after two weeks two fake lawyer were arrested at Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area and handed over to police for prosecution.
Police personnel attached to Ebrumede Police station, arrested the suspect’s sister-in-law who is acting as accomplice after the lid of the fake lawyer was blown up.
Ikupa, according to report, was apprehended by some lawyers at the premises of the Magistrate Court 1, Effurun Monday morning.
Report said the lawyers comprising D.O. Omage, Lawrence Ayewa of Udu Branch, O.J Oghenejakpor Jnr, D.J. Ikpesu of Effurun Branch, A.P. Eferurhobo and J.E Irogbo of Warri branch.
The lawyers on discovering the seal with the Supreme Court number quickly notified their colleague in Sapele. But, Israel Onoge Esq denied giving his seal to anyone to prepare the Deed.
Aggrieved lawyers immediately complained to the Ebrumede Police station after the suspect who gave his name as Tega Ikupa testified that he collected the Deed from his sister-in-law, who was also arrested.
During interrogation, the woman confessed that a Surveyor in Adeje Community, Okpe prepared the Deed for after collecting the sum of N80,000, which will be used as evidence for prosecution in court after investigation into the case is completely.
