Operatives of the Nigeria police in Ogun State Command have foiled an attempt by a group of aggrieved Nigerian to release arrested suspects in its custody.
Command’s spokesman,
DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi,
said Oru-Ijebu Police Division, was breached when the students mobilised to Oru-Ijebu Police Division, claiming some of their colleagues were detained.
He stated however that preliminary investigation by a Divisional Police Officer, Oru Ijebu Division confirmed that no student was in his Division’s custody in connection with Saturday March 28th 2026 incident.
But the agitated students, according to the statement, allegedly “breached the station gate, threw stones and bottles, threatening Police personnel and property”.
The unpleasant development, prompted “reinforcements by police authorities that fires teargas canisters “to disperse the crowd”, and restored normalcy.
The police Command, urged the public, especially students, to address grievances through lawful and peaceful channels, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and public safety.
The statement reads in part, “the Ogun State Police Command reports that on Saturday, 28th March 2026, a group of students mobilised to Oru-Ijebu Police Division, claiming some of their colleagues were detained.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Oru Ijebu Division confirmed that no student was in his division’s custody.
“The students became agitated, breached the station gate, threw stones and bottles, threatening Police personnel and property.
“Reinforcements were called and teargas was used to disperse the crowd. Normalcy has since been restored”, according to police.
