Eight lawmakers in Zamfara State House of Assembly — including a close ally of Abdul’aziz Yari, who serves as the Director-General for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign —have resigned their membership from Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to a Daily Trust report, the lawmakers who stepped down include:
Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South)
Hon. Ibrahim Tukur Bakura (Bakura)
Hon. Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I)
Hon. Barrister Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North)
Hon. Muktaru Nasiru Kaura (Kaura North)
Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North)
Hon. Bashar Bello (Bungudu West)
Hon. Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I)
While they have yet to disclose their next political move, the legislators cited insecurity, alleged injustice, and other issues affecting the wellbeing of the people in a joint statement.
They lamented that they could no longer remain in a party that has failed to provide adequate security for citizens.
Contacted, the State APC Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Danmadamin Birnin Magaji, told the newspaper that the party has yet to be officially notified.
”We are still waiting for their correspondence from their respective political Wards after reaching their Local Government executives, which would later be forwarded to us,” Danmadamin said.
The party initially only saw the resignation letters on social media. “Whenever we receive the copies officially, we will communicate our stance”, according to the the APC official.
