The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three security personnel attached to First City Monument Bank (FCMB) for alleged criminal conspiracy, giving false information, defamation, obstruction of police officers in the lawful discharge of their duties and attempted obtaining of money by false pretence.
The suspects were identified as Usman Usman, 30, of Guru, Bauchi; Aliyu Musa, 30, of Yelwan Lebura; and Haruna Adamu, 35, of Rafin Tambari.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the incident occurred on August 9, 2026, when Usman and Musa reported at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, that a police patrol team had allegedly impounded their Bajaj motorcycle during an enforcement operation.
The suspects alleged that the patrol team, led by an Inspector of Police, impounded the motorcycle, with registration number BGR 393UM, while enforcing the state executive order restricting the night operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles.
They further alleged that police personnel demanded money for the release of the motorcycle and claimed that when they returned with the money, the motorcycle was missing.
The complainants consequently accused the police of stealing the motorcycle and demanded N1.2 million as compensation.
But, the command said intelligence-led investigation into the allegation revealed that the three suspects had allegedly conspired to remove the motorcycle themselves from the police impoundment area.
According to the police, while the attention of the patrol team was focused on other offenders, the suspects allegedly used a spare key to secretly remove the motorcycle and concealed it at the residence of Haruna Adamu in Rafin Tambari.
The police further alleged that the suspects subsequently reported the matter at the ‘E’ Division and deliberately made false claims against police personnel in an attempt to obstruct them in the performance of their official duties and damage the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The three suspects have been arrested, while the motorcycle has been recovered.
The command said investigation was ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the preliminary investigation.
