The minister of the the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has described Rotimi Amaechi choice as the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Abubakar Atiku.for the 2027 Presidential election as fatal to his Presidential ambition.
Wike made the allegation on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, during a media chat in Abuja in response to criticisms of his political style and administration.
According to him, “Rotimi Amaechi being the running mate to Atiku Abubakar. I have come to know that it would be difficult for Atiku to become president.
“I am sure the only factor that made him choose Amaechi may be financial. If it is in terms of bringing votes to support him, it is dead on arrival”, he said.
Wike said, “I was a minister of State, he was Governor, he couldn’t put a Governor. I defeated him very well. He has never won election since after 2011 when he was the Director General of the campaign team”.
According to him, “he was Director-General of Buhari campaign in 2015, yet, he did not get 25 percent votes in Rivers.
‘He (Amaechi) was Director-General of Buhari campaign in 2019, when he was super minister during Buhari tenure, yet, he (Buhari) couldn’t get 25 percent votes in Rivers.
He (Amaechi) supported Atiku in 2023, Atiku did not get 15 percent votes in Rivers. How is he an asset to Rivers State and South South?”, Wike said.
