A pregnant woman identified only as Beauty who reportedly set her 12-year-old daughter’s buttocks on microwavable (fire) plastic wax, has been apprehended by concerned residents in Benin City, Edo State.
The Benin-based mother of two children from Akwa Ibom State, alleged that she scalded the buttocks of the subject of domestic abuse and Gender Based Violence, SGBV, identified as Rejoice on Wednesday July 22, following inappropriate behaviour of the minor.
Also, Beauty who strapped another child to herself, revealed that the step father of the survivor Rejoice lives with, and witnessed the incident, condemned the human rights abuse.
But the parents did not take steps to treat one of the marginalized voices arising from lack of empathy for the survivor, according to Evangelist Lucky Orukpe.
In a social media post on Saturday’s Orukpe, called on relevant government agencies to take custody of the woman and her children recognized in law, but often overlooked in reality by their parents.
He demanded justice for the survivor of the abuse and appealed to the Nigeria police to investigate the expectant mother and ensure that disciplinary action is taken against her to serve as a deterrent to other child abusers in the State.
“My attention was dwan to this incident this morning. As you can see, this woman doesn’t deserve to live with these children.
“The Edo State government as a matter of fact take note of this matter. Commissioner for Women Affairs, as a matter of urgency, rescue these children from this woman”, Orukpe advised.
The agonizing 12-year-old girl who muttered during the brief interview session, said home is no longer a safe place for her, having experienced the effect of abuse as a victim her own rights, and leaving a legacy that is dominated by domestic abuse.
