Tinubu expands Nigerian Army to 12 Divisions

President Bola Tinubu has expanded the Nigerian Army’s operational structure from Eight to twelve Divisions in a major move to enhance national defense capabilities and address evolving security challenges.

 

The Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said on Thursday in a statement that the restructuring aims to decentralize decision-making, strengthen border security, safeguard critical infrastructure, and improve response times to emerging threats.

 

​This expansion complements ongoing investments in the Armed Forces, which include recruiting 28,000 additional personnel, acquiring advanced military hardware, and improving troop welfare.

 

​Under the revised framework, the Nigerian Army will be strategically distributed across 12 zonal command centers:

1 Division Headquarters – Kaduna (Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States), while 2 Division Headquarters – make up Ibadan (Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States).

 

3 Division Headquarters consist of Jos (Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States) alongside 5 Division with Headquarters – Makurdi Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States).

 

The statement also said 6 Division Headquarters, consists, Port Harcourt (Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States), while 7 Division Headquarters, constitutes Maiduguri (Borno and Yobe States.

 

8 Division Headquarters in Sokoto (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States) alongside 9 Division Headquarters – Ilorin (Kwara and Niger States).

 

The statement.also said, 10 Division Headquarters – Jalingo (Taraba and Adamawa States) while 81 Division Headquarters – Lagos (Lagos and Ogun States).

 

82 Division Headquarters are, Enugu (Enugu, Anambra, Abia), Ebonyi and Imo States, while 83 Division Headquarters – Benin City involves (Edo, Delta and Bayelsa States).
