Cross River police profile two arrested suspects for alleged murder crime

The Nigeria police Command in Cross River State has detained two suspects, Ofofon Philip, and Offiong Promise, 34 and 23 years, respectively in connection with alleged murder case reported by an operative of the Nigerian Correctional Service Afukan Community in the State.

 

The Command’s spokesman, ASP Eitokpah Sunday said men of Mbukpa Police Division in the State, acting on information received on 8th June 2026, at about 7:00 a.m. arising from the information provided by the complainant.

 

The suspects, according to a statement, were arrested by the police for profiling in connection with the alleged crime that has gained attention online through the circulation of unverified information on social media space.

 

The operative who lives in the area said members of the community had apprehended two persons suspected to be connected with an alleged murder incident.

 

Upon receiving the report, police officers visited the scene and took the two suspects into custody for questioning in the case which was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.

 

“Preliminary investigation and a search of the area were conducted. Both suspects denied any knowledge of, or involvement in, any murder.

 

“No corpse was found at the reported location. However, traces of blood were observed around a soakaway pit.

 

“One of the suspects claimed that the blood observed at the scene was linked to a previous injury sustained on his leg. This claim remains subject to ongoing investigation”, according to the police statement.

 

The Command wishes to state categorically that, as of the time of this release, *no case of murder has been established against the two suspects in our custody*.

 

The matter is currently being investigated as a case of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace against the two suspects, while further investigations continue to ascertain the true circumstances surrounding the report.

 

Responding, the Commissioner of Police in the State, directed a thorough and discreet investigation into the matter to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

 

The statement also said the command urged members of the public, media practitioners, bloggers, and content creators to verify information through official Police channels before publication.

 

It also emphasized that the dissemination of unverified information could mislead the public, create unnecessary anxiety, and generate tension within affected communities.
