The Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Delta State have arrested four suspected members of a fraud syndicate and two suspected drug traffickers in the State.
SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s spokesman said in a statement that the suspects Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma and John Egwuba on Nnebisi Road, Asaba, were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations by the police.
Edafe, revealed that the suspects were reportedly operating in a red Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV without a registered number plate, on June 9.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly part of a five-man criminal syndicate specializing in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with counterfeit United States dollar bills.
According to Edafe, police operatives carried out a raid on their hideout in Asaba, where they recovered 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes and military camouflage allegedly concealed within the premises after their arrest.
The suspects who made useful confessional statements during interrogation in the ongoing investigations to uncover the full scope of the syndicate’s activities and apprehend other fleeing members.
In another operation carried out the same day, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested two women suspected to be involved in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in Ika North-East Local Government Area.
Police identified suspects as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were arrested during coordinated raids in the Owaliru and Alihame Communities.
The statement also said investigation revealed that the suspects were actively involved in supplying and distributing illicit drugs within the area. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the drug distribution network.
Commending the resilience of his men and dedication to duty, the Commissioner of in the State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to strengthen intelligence-led policing, intensify operations against criminal gangs, and ensure the safety and security of residents across the State.
He also implored members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information that will assist security agencies in combating crime and maintaining law and order.
