NSIB retrieves chocking evidence in Warri-Itakpe fatal train derailment

A team of investigators led by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, have obtained critical evidence at the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor train derailment site where four persons died and several other passengers injured.

 

During the on-site visit to the scene of the accident that occurred June 8, 2026, the team documented key evidence and inspected affected rail infrastructure as well as equipment.

 

The NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, Funke Adebayo-Arowojobe said in a statement that the team also collected operational and technical data, and interviewed personnel connected to the ill-fated train’s operations.

 

The development is part of a coordinated response involving key transportation stakeholders, including SIB investigation team led by the Director-General of the Bureau, Captain Alex Badeh junior and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, Kayode Opeifa, and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Engineer Funsho Adebiyi, who were part of the mission.

 

Captain Badeh Jr, had in a previous report, extended condolences to families of the victims and passengers affected by the incident, assuring that Nigerians of the Bureau commitment to improving rail safety across Nigeria.
