Tragedy was averted after a second-year law student of Kampala International University, Dennis Zziwa, acted Jesus passion, “Way of the Cross” reenactment on ‘Good Friday’ in the Gregorian Calendar.
The incident, according to Nigerian Tribune Newspaper happened at Our Lady of Africa Church in Mbuya, Uganda, where many worshippers and spectators had gathered for the yearly playlet.
Emergency responders from the Red Cross, present at the event, quickly administered first aid and hauled him to Lamone Health Center in Luzira for further medical attention and observation.
Trouble started when the performance took a dangerous turn during scenes showing the suffering of Jesus Christ as part of activities, heralding Easter celebrations.
Dennis, who played the lead role, was subjected to heavy beatings as part of the dramatization, leaving him injured.
The incident, made him to be hospitalised arising from injuries he sustained while portraying Jesus Christ during reenactment.
The incident has raised concerns amongst netizens on social media about safety measures during live religious performances, especially those involving physically demanding roles.
Witnesses described the moment as both emotional and alarming, as the line between performance and real harm appeared to blur during the reenactment.
Dennis is said to be receiving treatment and is under close medical supervision as of the time of this report.
