ADC supporters seeks withdrawal of judge handling suits involving opposition parties

Protest erupted in Nigeria’s Capital, Abuja on Thursday when supporters of the African Democratic Congress, ADC demanded the withdrawal of Justice Joyce Abdulmalik from a suit involving the part and other opposition groups in the Country.

Ahead of the scheduled hearing of an ADC-related matter before Justice Abdulmalik, placards bearing loyalists of ADC who changed solidarity songs, with inscriptions, Judiciary Should Not Destroy Our Democracy”; “Recuse Yourself, You Are Bias”. “We Have No Confidence in You”, disrupted court proceedings for hours.

Multiple reports said a group identified as the National Forum of Former Legislators (NFFL) has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to deregister some political parties, including ADC, Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party, Action Alliance, and Action Peoples Party.

The litigants had in a lawsuit, initiated in early 2026, allege that these registered political parties failed to meet the mandatory constitutional requirements to maintain their registration status, contained in Section 225A of Nigeria 1999 Constitution (as amended by the National Assembly.
