Gov’s wife frees inmate sent to prison for cyberstalking husband

Mary Nwifuru, wife of Ebonyi Governor, Francis Nwifuru has paid fine for a woman who was sent to security Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service in the State for bullying her husband months ago.

The unnamed Facebook user, earlier arrested by security operatives and charged to court in line with the Cyber Crime Prevention Prohibition Act, 2024, was among the 25 inmates, got pardon during a tour of some Custodial Centres across the State by the Governor’s wife.

Ebonyi State’s Attorney-General,
Ben Uruchi Odoh, explained that the fine and the sum of money paid to secure the inmates release worth over N20 million.

He disclosed that the measure is aimed at decongestion inmates at Custodial Centres, which has risen to 1205 through Mrs Nwifuru’s Foundation and support project in the State.

According to reports, the Governor’s wife also gave an undisclosed amount of money to support the inmates to enhance their reintegration in society.

A senior official of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Angela Igwugwu, commended the gesture and sued fore collation by Nigerians and groups to ease the burden of inmates in Nigeria.

“I wish to express my gratitude to for your continued motherly love to the release of these inmates”, she said, while some of the inmates appreciate the Governor’s wife act of philanthropy.
