Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State says he would resign from his position if President Bola Tinubu loses 2027 Presidential election in the State.
This followed Okpebholo earlier pledge to deliver 2.5 million votes for the All Progressives Congress in the election, citing the President’s economy policies and road infrastructure.
Okpebholo made the pledge during an interview on TVC News anchor, Babajide Oditoju that he will not betray the trust of the people.
He said, “we have never produced the kind of results we produced in Esanland before under Asiwanju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“APC, Edo people have never even tell Asiwanju thank you. How are they going to tell him thank you. It’s the vote. You see that flyover at Ikpoba Hill, it’s very dear to Edo people. You see the one in Adesuwa, it’s very dear to Edo people.
“You see that road we are doing, it’s very dear to Edo people. So, these are the things that will speak for Asiwanju here (Edo State) and he will win. And if he does not win, I will resign as Governor of Edo State.
“I am the one telling you. There is no election here for him (Tinubu). Forget it. I am a politician. I understudied Chief Anenih.
“My style of politics is not Thuggery. It’s grassroots. You don’t see me with Elites, but you will see me ordinary people on the street.
“Asiwanju is more popular than me here now because Edo people already know that what I am doing is because of Asiwanju’s impact.
“I am telling you. You will see the kind of results that will come out from here. There is no opposition here in Edo. Everybody is for Asiwanju”, Okpebholo said.
Asked if his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki’s influence could swing the lid in the forthcoming election, the Governor replied, “who is Obaseki’s people? Does Obaseki has any man here?
“Let him come here now.
Is Adams Oshiomhole not on the street here?, according to him, “the money that is given to us by Mr President is not for me to keep in my house.
“It’s not for me to keep for private use.
“It’s to work for the people so that the people will be happy. And that is why they voted for me”, Okpebholo stated.
