Police declare 3 officers dead, 7 missing, arrest 6 suspects in Benue

The Nigeria police authorities have declared seven of its personnel missing in connection with the brutal killings of three police officers by armed herdsmen on Friday, September 19, 2025 in Benue State.

Public Relations officer at the Force Headquarters, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement on Sunday said six criminal suspects behind the violent attack on Tactical Teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area, have been arrested.

He explained that the arrest followed an ongoing response operation in Benue’s deadly attack on the Nigeria Police Tactical Teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area of the State.

The statement reads in part: “The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, resulted in the death of three police officers, while seven others are still missing.

“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently leading the operation geared towards rescuing the missing officers and arresting the fleeing suspects.

“The arrested suspects are in custody and assisting with useful information. Equally, the IGP has directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area and assured that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in Benue State”, it said.

In response to the ferocious attack, Hundeyin disclosed that Inspector-General of Police, IGP, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has deployed additional tactical assets to ensure speedy arrest of suspects.

The statement also revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is currently leading the operation geared towards rescuing the missing officers and arresting the fleeing suspects.

IGP Egbetokun who strongly condemns the attack, describing it as cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State, said the suspects are in custody and assisting with useful information to the police.

In the meantime, the Nigeria Police Force urge members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies.

It also assured of the Force determination to intensify efforts towards rescuing missing personnel, apprehending fleeing suspects, and dismantling the criminal networks behind such reprehensible attacks.
