The Management of University of Nigeria, UNN, Nsukka in Enugu State, South Eastern Nigeria has rejig its security architecture after a guest identified as Chiebonam Nweze, was allegedly stabbed death at a social event on Campus, weekend.
The incident occurred on September 12, 2025, at a bonfire night organised by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, according to The Nation.
TheNewspad reports that trouble started when miscreants from a neighbouring community infiltrated the event, stirring the violence that led to the fatal stabbing.
Nweze lost his life battle from his injuries before he could get medical help at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka’s medical Centre.
The development has prompted Management of the University to ban forthwith all future social events on campus outside 6p.m.
The university’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Inya Agha Egwu made the disclosure in a statement on Monday.
He clarified that only be allowed during the day under strict security supervision.
He explained that neither the deceased nor the attackers were students of the institution.
The University’s spokesman said the University’s security team, working with the Nigerian Police Anti-Cult Unit, to arrest the perpetrators behind the crime.
Whikey expressing its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, over the incident it described as “unfortunate and deeply regrettable.”
According to him, ‘The University of Nigeria remains fully committed to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all members of its community and will continue to take every necessary measure to prevent a recurrence of such incidents”.
