Ex-IGP Arase dies at 69

Solomon Arase, former Inspector-General of Police is dead.

He died after a brief illness at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja on Sunday August 31st.

Neither his family nor the Nigeria Police Force has yet-to issue an official statement confirming the Arase who passed at age 69.

The former IGP was born in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, and studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University.

After his graduation in 1980, he joined the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981 and retired from service
on June 21, 2016, after attaining the mandatory retirement age.

Before his retirement, Arase, served in Namibia as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission and was a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Late President Muhammadu Buhari, had appointed Arase who was a lawyer as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023.

Netizens on social media have started sending tributes on social media, recalling his impact during his sojourn as a Nigeria police officer.
