President Muhammadu Buhari led other prominent Nigerians to bid farewell to Nigeria’s first Republic minister, Republic minister, Chief Mbazulike Amechi who was nicknamed: “The Boy Is Good”.
Buhari said in a tribute delivered by the Labour and employment Senator Chris Ngige, extolled the sterling qualities of the elder statesman on Thursday in in Awka but in Ukpor Nnewi South Local Government Area in Anambra State.
He revealed that the late minister was a great patriot and Nationalist who deeply believed in the unity of Nigeria at the historic funeral.
The President said Amechi, lived and died as a great patriot whose commitment and sacrifice to the peace,and unity of the Country can’t be forgotten.
In his eulogy in honour of the foremost member of the Zikist movement, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, acknowledged the late Amechi’s commitment to Igbo culture, which he lived and died as a Christian.
The Governor called on the President to consider the agony of Nigerian people as a result of the new Naira design policy.
He lamented that since the Supreme court had declared that the old and new naira notes should remain as legal tender until judgment is delivered, the President ought to obey the ruling of the apex court.
“I pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Chief Amechi. May he rest peacefully in the bosom of the Lord”, Soludo said.
Earlier in a homily, Bishop Okoye said that God chose to call him home at such a special All Saints day, a divine indication of his eternal citizenship of Heaven.
The Cleric thanked the Governor for the ongoing road projects across the State.
Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, represented by the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Eric Kelechi Igwe and Nigeria’s First Female Governor, Dame Virgy Etiaba attended the mass.
Also present are His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, Special Adviser to the Anambra State Governor on Security Matters, AVM Ben Chiobi (Rtd), Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matter, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, Chief Protocol/Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon Chinedu Nwoye, attended the mass.
