A Benin-based praise singer, Mr. Emmanuel better known as ‘Egogo’ on Sunday got a close shave with death in the hands of suspected thugs who left him with life-threatening injury.

A citizen journalist said the praise singer was allegedly brutalised by hoodlums outside the town hall meeting of Edo APC leaders at Homeville Hotel on Sunday in Benin City, Edo State Capital.

The well-attended meeting was at the instance of Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for February 25th 2023 elections

TheNewspad investigation revealed that Egogo’s attack comes few days after canvassing support for Omosede Igbinedion, PDP Candidate for House of Representatives, representing Ovia federal Constituency, in a short video, which he posted on social media.

Also, the praise singer, berated the member of House of Representatives member, representing Ovia federal Constituency, Hon. Dennis Idahosa for poor performance in the footage.

Reports said trouble started after the Benin-based praise singer, Egogo, was shoved aside by some APC supporters who also prevented him from entering the venue of the event where he had planned to showcase his craft and get financial gratification from politicians in return.

It was gathered that his hope was however dashed after an argument ensued between him and suspected thugs aided by some politicians who accused of fishing in troubled water, and thereafter descended on him with blows, tagging him as a ‘bad boy’.

His attackers left him with bruises, pushed him out of the venue with body bags, while security operatives at the event where Hon. Idahosa was present, looked the other way at the drama, amid laughter.

A few minutes later, Egogo who wept uncontrollably without consolation as he mutter words, blamed his ordeal on his support for Omosede Igbinedion, daughter of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

Speaking after his attack, Egogo said, “my dear people of Edo State, see what my fellow leaders in APC did to me because I did a shot video against Hon. Denco in Omosede’s house, leaders of APC and boys of Denco who is contesting for House of Representatives, did to me.

“I wore APC to attend Tinubu town hall meeting, see what they did to me. Edo people judge this. Is this good. See me, Egogo”, he said, ” God bless them.

Commenting on the incident, a grieving Facebook user, Peter Uwuoruya in a post wrote: “Edo APC town hall balabalu meeting yesterday turns bloody as party members and leaders allegedly attack one Mr. Emmauel a.k.a. “Egogo the town crier.

“Let’s condemn any form of political violence”, Uwuoruya said in the post which has elicited several reactions by Nigerians.
