The Nigeria police Command in Benue State has arrested Ushahemba Agena, the leader of a 9-man gang that recently kidnapped Elder Kyado Justin in the State.

MAN SET ABLAZE BY MOB/POLICEMEN IN THE LINE OF DUTY

The suspect and other criminal gang members (now at large), kidnapped Kyado from his residence in Tse Agena- Gbamacha Council Ward, Gwer- East Local Government Area of the State.

The victim allegedly abducted and tortured over accusation of being possessed by witchcraft against a young man who had been sick in the area as pronounced by a witch doctor.

SP. Catherine Anene said, “the youth took him to an area where they prepared fire and compared the Octogenarian to sit by the fire so that by this torture, he will confess that he had a hand in the ill health” of a certain person, Terzungwe Agena.

The police spokesperson in a statement, said, “Upon arrival of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the victim who had sustained various degrees of burns at his waist and legs and ran away . He (89-year-old survivor), was rescued and taken to Federal Medical center, Apir, Benue State where he is receiving treatment”.

The police spokesperson revealed that operatives extinguished the flames and rescued the 89-year-old man who was under fetal, after his traducers fled the scene.

“Investigation led to the arrest of one Ushahemba Agena who led the mob to the victims house. Efforts are been made to arrest suspects at large, according to SP. Anene.

The statement partly read, “The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP. Wale Abass condemns in totality this barbaric act and has pledged his commitment to arrest and deal with perpetuators of this act in accordance with the laws”.

Accordingly, “The CP calls on traditional rulers and leaders of Communities where such inhuman practices are springing up to educate their children/wards as the Command, under his watch will not tolerate this act”.
