Prof. Uchenna Ikonne, the Abia State governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) for the March 11, 2023 is dead.

Ikonne who died on Wednesday night at the National Hospital, Abuja, after suffering from multiple cardiac arrests, which earlier took him to the United Kingdom.

Cardiac arrest, is a sudden, sometimes temporary, cessation of the heart’s functioning.

Chikezie, eldest son of the deceased, disclosed the sad news in a statement he issued on behalf of the family on Wednesday.

The late politician, according to the statement, was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom, but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests which took his life.

The statement partly read, “He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from.

“Further details and arrangements would be made known to the public after deliberations and meetings are made within the family”, he said.

TheNewspad reports that tributes by Nigerians have started pouring in honour of the departed politician.
