Customary court President, ex-Lawmaker kidnapped in Edo


Igueben Customary court in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, adjourned sitting, following the abduction of the court on Monday morning by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

His Honour, Mrs Precious Aigbonoga, according to sources, was taken into captivity by hoodlums around Ugoneki area in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the State while on her way to the court.

Mr Festus Osagie, Usiobaifo Esq., Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Bar Association, Benin Branch, condemned the incident in a statement on Monday.

He clarified that the abductee is the wife of Mr. Afebu Aigbonoga, PDP Candidate, Etsako West Constituency 1; Just ad he sued for prayers for the judicial worker.

He described the incident as worrisome, insensitivity and unacceptable, noting that the Bar is in close touch with security operatives towards the rescue of the hostage.

Meanwhile, a former member of Edo State house of Assembly, Festus Edughele has been kidnapped, barely 48 hours after 32 Warri-bound train passengers were whisked away by suspected herdsmen from Igueben train station in the State.

It was leant that the former legislator, was allegedly kidnapped in company of unidentified individual, by gunmen in the early hours of Monday on on Igueben-Ugoneki road, Igueben Local Government Area of the State.

Edughele, represented Esan South-East in the 6th Assembly, was returning from his hometown in Ubiaja to Benin City where he was expected to board a flight to Abuja,

According to a family source said the former lawmaker billed to travel by train on Saturday but immediately opted to travel by road after the train attack.

The source also revealed that the kidnappers through back channel, have demanded for the sum of N200 million from one of the relatives of the hostages as ransom.

Pandemonium was said to have broke out after another vehicle traveling behind the car of Edughele, was involved in an accident, while trying to pullover the kidnappers who had swapped the former lawmaker and the occupant into their operational vehicle on the axis of evil.
