SP. Catherine Anene, the Command’s spokesperson said the recovered papers, crunched in sack bags and kept in a shop close to Wadata Police Barracks, Makurdi, by police detectives.

Anene in a statement said the information, was received at A Police Division Makurdi, that hidden Naira notes were recovered from Police Barracks Wadata at about 1200hrs on Tuesday.

But the information, according to the police, turned out to be hoax, noting that when the detectives that were sent arrived the scene, “The owner of the shop, Mr. Isah Suleiman was invited for questioning”.

During interrogation, Isah, tendered a licence issued to him by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for waste which was packaged with Unity Bank inscription management.

SP. Anene said Isah told police that “these wasted papers are usually gotten from CBN and processed in mosquito repellents”.

She revealed that the shop owner, police have extended invitation to CBN to provide clarification on the allegation, which had heightened anxiety in the area.

The statement partly reads, “On 13/12/2022 at about 1200hrs information was received at A Police Division Makurdi, that hidden naira notes were recovered from Police Barracks Wadata.
