Abducted women leaders for Peter Obi support group regain freedom


Two Labour party leaders for Peter Obi Support Group in Edo State, Mrs Helen Taiwo Augustine and Mrs Funmilayo Elizabeth who were recently abducted by gunmen have regained freedom after spending one week in captivity.

The grassroots mobilizers for the Presidential Candidate of LP in the 2023 general elections, were abducted on on Wednesday, 7th December, 2023 along Ibillo/Igarra/Auchi Road, Edo State.

The spokesman of the Command in the State, SP. Nwabuzor said on Tuesday in a statement said, “The victims’ rescue/release on Monday, 12th December 2023.

He explained that the feat culminated from the aggressive manhunt/bush combing operations by the Police Operatives of Edo Command In collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Edo State Security Network, and the hunters.

A chieftain of LP told our Correspondent in a telephone interview on Tuesday, after stated that arrangements were made with locals towards their release.

The LP chieftain who did not want his name on print media, declined comments on how much ransom was paid for the release the women
in the Edo North Senatorial District.

He said: “I have no intention to speak to that. But, arrangements had been made by locals to give attention to that. It was coming from the support group”.

But, SP. Nwabuzor who recently returned from PPRO conference in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, has been silent on requests by journalists to confirm the report of alleged abduction of LP leaders in Akoko-Edo, northern part of the State.

SP. Nwavuzor also quoted the Commissioner of police, CP. Mohammed Dankwara as saying that the hostages have been reunited with their families and loved ones.

The statement appealed to law abiding citizens of Edo State and the general public to pursue their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation.

It also called on lawful citizens in the State to always stand up against crimes and criminality and provide information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of the culprit’s.
