Uzodinma conveys security meeting over attacks on INEC offices

.

In the wake of incessant attacks on
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodinma has called for a security meeting to discuss the worsening security crisis in the State.

Heads of security agencies in the State are expected to attend the meeting this week, TheNewspad learned.

This followed attack on INEC office in Oru West Local Government Area of the State by arsonists on Sunday morning.

Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee said this in a statement on Sunday, 72 hours after another incident occurred in the State.

Okoye said the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the State, Sylvia Uchenna Agu, reported the incident on Sunday morning.

The statement partly read, “Overall, this is the 7th attack on our facilities in five states of the federation in the last four months.

“Once again, the commission expresses its concern on the consequences of what appears to be a systematic attack on its facilities across the country on the conduct of elections in particular and electoral activities in general.”

Recall that another INEC was set ablaze by unknown gunmen in Ebonyi State few days ago.

But the national chairman of INEC, Mohammed Yakubu had vowed that attacks on its facilities will not prevent the Commission from conducting the 2023 general elections.
