Suspected internet fraudster, also known as ‘Yahoo boy’, Obeta John, is in police net in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Idowu Buhari in Ogun State.
27-year-old suspect, reportedly slammed the victim’s head on a wall in his room for refusing to hand over a certain amount of money suspected to be proceeds of internet fraud in her possession.
The spokesman of the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP. Abimbola Oyeyemi on Wednesday in a statement, said the victim was HND1 Mass Communication student of Gateway Polytechnic Saapade in the State.
Obeta, according to the police was arrested, following a distress call received at the Ode -Remo Police Divisional Headquarters, from his neighbours that the suspect, who resides at No 3, Mojubade compound, Eredu Ishara, locked himself and his girlfriend inside his room.
His neighbours also told police operatives that the suspect eat up his girl friend after rejecting all entreaties to persuade him to open the locked door were unsuccessful as he continued in his violent act.
Responding to a distress call from neighbours in the community,the DPO Ode-Remo Division, CSP Fasogbon Olayemi immedately led his men to the scene where they met the victim in the pool of her blood after forcing the door open.
Oyeyemi said the victim was immediately rushed to State Hospital Ishara where she was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
Meanwhile,the suspect,an indigene of Enugu State was promptly arrested and taken into custody for interrogation.
The murder suspect, Obeta John in his confessional statement to the police admitted that he was an internet fraudster.
He lamented however that certain amount of money from one of his clients was paid into the account of his deceased girlfriend who refused to remit the said money to him.
He further stated that arguments over the said money degenerated into a scuffle between them which eventually led to the death of the girl.
In the mean time, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide department of the State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation ahead of his prosecution.
