Why vigilante couldn’t fight Bureau De change robbers in Edo— Director

.

The Edo Vigilante Network, has confirmed the recent attack on Bureau De Change operators at New Benin market in Oredo Local Government Area of the State.

Babatunde Olukoga, Director of operations of the security outfit said this in a chat on Independent Television Radio programme.

Olukoga blamed ineffectiveness of security agents on sabotage, which he claimed hindered their operation in the crowded area two weeks ago, lamenting that armed robbers were swift in the operation, which lasted for few minutes.

According to him, “That is why we have harmonised with police personnel such that when we are going to any operation, while we bear lighter forearms, the police will bear sophisticated weapon to confront the boys.

“So, at that level what went wrong was just natural. We use to have a patrol team that are attached to the market especially at night”, Babatunde said.

“This incident happened in the afternoon. So, before information spread for people to access the crime scene.

“The robbers were swift in the invasion. Certainly, internal conspiracy might have taken place. People might have secretly gave information that ‘police have moved to the station”, he said.

Contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in Edo State, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor neither confirmed nor denied the attack.
