Angry residents on Wednesday blocked Lucky Way by Tenboga junction at Ikpoba-Hill in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, causing pandemonium.
It happens on the day the State governor, Godwin Obaseki is billed to present his 2023 appropriation Bill to members of the State house of Assembly for approval.
The protest over deplorable state of the roads, leading to several towns villages and Benin-Abuja Highway corridor, caused gridlocks and crippled both vehicular and human movement on Wednesday morning.
It was gathered that Pedestrians, students, Commuters and traders at the popular Ore-Ogbeni market, had hectic time to waddle through the chaotic situation to get to their destinations.
Youths who barricaded the road, chanted solidarity songs, stated that they were upbeat that the abandoned road project would receive Government attention after the rains subsided few months ago.
They also lamented the harrowing experiences they have being going through over the years, adding that the worsening road condition has shot up transport fares in the area.
Investigation revealed that a bullion van loaded with cash that was caught up in a melee was spotted driving against the traffic, while armed security personnel on escort trekked a long distance to prevent attack by hoodlums.
It was further learnt that as at 1:30p.m, the Governor is yet to arrive the beautifully decorated hallowed chamber of the house at the King square in Benin City.
Efforts to obtain comments from Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the special Adviser to the Governor, were unsuccessful as one of his aides told our reporter that his boss is busy.
