The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has tasked its members to uphold and preserve the ethics of journalism, ahead of 2023 general elections towards building trust.
The call whic is contained in a statement by the chairman of NUJ, Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, advised Journalists to remain apolitical irrespective of their political lining in the course of promoting Candidates of the various political parties at the polls.
He enjoined members of the union to be apolitical and shun acts that tend to undermine professional boundaries of the Media particularly on campaign stories and contents before use.
According to Alenkhe, “Adherence to the ethics of the profession remain a top priority as any member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Edo State, adding that any member found ‘deeply involved’ in partisan politics, would be made to face the Ethics/Disciplinary Committee of the union, which has been activated to monitor strict compliance.
The statement also called on journalists to cross check their stories on their news portals towards reducing libellous or defamation contents that could attract litigations to themselves and managements.
