Anambra to revoke C-of-O of properties over non-payment of ground rent

.

The Anambra State government has threatened to revoke Certificate-of-Occupancy (C-of-O) of some property owners in the State.

Property owners who fail to pay the government-imposed Ground Rent to the government on or before 22nd 2022, are those affected by the government policy.

The Government disclosed this in a public notice signed by Ejike Edwin on behalf of the State Commissioner for Lands and dated 28th July 2022.

The notice was extended by two weeks, following the expiration of the previous notice dated 5th July, 2022 by three weeks.

Part of the notice read, “Kindly note that the failure to failure to make payment on or before the 22nd August 2022, will lead to immediate revocation of Right of Occupancy for breach of terms pursuant to Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act Cap 151. Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004”.

The notice reminded property owners “that for payment of the Ground Rent, all Stakeholders of Certificate-of-Occupancy shall come along to the Ministry of Lands with photocopies of evidence of payment, the Certificate-of-Occupancy issued to them and any other title documents relating to the land granted to them for necessary action”.
