History beckons on Justice Olukayode as CJN, Tanko resigns

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Mohammed has bored out of service, ahead of an official announcement.

JUSTICE OLUKAYODE ARIWOOLA

Justice Tanko resignation few days after 14 Justices of the apex court petitioned him to lament poor condition of service and other issues of concern in the bench.

He became the acting CJN since January 25, 2019 after the then CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was suspended from office for alleged corrupt practices.

His resignation on ‘health ground’, is expected to pave the way for Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as his successor, according to confidential sources.

Plans are ongoing by President Muhammadu Buhari to swear-in Justice Olukayode being the second most senior Justice of Supreme court as the acting CJN.

Justice Olukayode was born on 22 August 1958.

The jurist was formerly a Justice of the Nigerian courts of appeal and on November 22, 2011.

He was appointed to the bench of the supreme court of Nigeria as Justice, sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
